Nursery Practitioner Needed

Grasshoppers in the Park is a parent run community nursery in Hackney, with a particular emphasis on creativity, play and the outdoors. We are looking for an experienced Nursery Practitioner with a Level 3 or above qualification (or equivalent) to join our friendly team.

Your role will be to help us provide a safe and stimulating environment where children can explore and learn through their interests, curiosity and
competence. As an excellent communicator, you will need to be versatile and be willing to familiarise yourself with a range of ideas about how to study and understand early childhood.

Person Specification

  • Essential Criteria
    • Education and Training
      • Childcare qualification equivalent to Level 3 or above (or equivalent).
      • Minimum of two years experience working with children and young people.
    • Knowledge
      • A sound knowledge of child development for children 2 to 5
      • An understanding of the EYFS and of the importance of observations, assessment and planning for children
      • An understanding of the importance of a play-based approach to children’s learning and development
      • Knowledge of child protection procedures
      • Understanding of the role of the key-person
      • An understanding of Health and Safety in the workplace
    • Skills and abilities
      • Good written and verbal communication skills
      • Ability to develop good relationships with parents and colleagues
      • Good ICT skills
  • Desirable Criteria
    • Education and Training
      • Experience of working in partnership with parents
      • Willingness to keep updated with issues relevant to the profession
    • Knowledge
      • A knowledge of research and theories related to childcare and education
      • An interest in the outdoor environment and understanding of its implications for children’s learning
      • A creative approach to education
      • Familiarity with the Reggio Emilia approach to education
      • A willingness to research specific topics related to childhood and children
      • A willingness to undertake further professional and academic training.
